Rotary in Maple Shade
Maple Shade Rotary Club began in 1970 when a group of Kiwanis members decided their goals were more in keeping with those of Rotary and changed allegiances. Those dozen founders held the first local Rotary meeting at The German Kitchen, the historical site of Sensational Host Caterers, where the club meets today. Since that day, the club has grown steadily to a healthy 50 members in early 2008. Membership is diverse in age, race, religion, and gender.
Maple Shade is served by its Rotary Club through the social activities the Club sponsors as well as the financial investment the Club makes to the community.
The Club’s annual pancake breakfast, beef and beer social, golf outing, family walk/run outing and participation in events such as the Sidewalk Sale help make Maple Shade a more vibrant town to live and do business.
Maple Shade Rotarians are involved in the community. When a local disabled child needed a wheelchair ramp her family could not afford the Rotary Club stepped forward and provided the ramp. When school children need coats or dictionaries, and American servicemen and women need assistance, Rotary acts.
Members dedicate time monthly to the littlest members of the community by participating in a visiting reader program at Yocum School that provides mentoring and fosters interest in reading along with community service.

Rotary Is Service Driven
Club membership provides you with an organized, well-supported outlet for contributing to your community and beyond.
Means of participation and activity evolve from what we refer to as the Four Avenues of Service: Rotary · CLUB · INTERNATIONAL ·VOCATIONAL COMMUNITY
Each of these Four Avenues has a unique purpose and reason for being. If you are asked to join, you accept the total package. A Rotarian does not concentrate on only one or two programs, projects, or Avenues of Service but treads a well-worn path on all four. |
We embrace a philosophy called
The Rotary 4-Way Test
Is it the Truth
Is it Fair to all concerned
Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
About Rotary - What Is Rotary?
|
Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 160 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs. Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.

The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is Service Above Self |
