HUNGER IN SOUTH JERSEY

In 2006, in collaboration with Feeding America™, the nation's food bank network, the FBSJ interviewed more than 55,000 individuals who were at risk of hunger and/or food insecurity. From those interviews, it was determined that in southern New Jersey, approximately 87,000 people are at risk of hunger. Of those...

·         70% had incomes below the official federal poverty level during the previous month.

·         44% have to choose between paying for food and paying their rent or mortgage.

·         45% have to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities.

·         36% are children and 8% are seniors.

Childhood Hunger:

·
Burlington County - 6,949 children are living in poverty

·         Camden County - 19,770 children are living in poverty

·         Salem County - 1,963 children are living in poverty

·         Gloucester County - 3,324 children are living in poverty

FINANCIAL DONATIONS

The Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) needs support in many ways in order to fulfill its mission to those in need which is to help eliminate hunger and malnutrition in southern New Jersey.

You might choose to be a financial supporter or join the mission by making food donations or holding food drives in your neighborhood or you might want to be more hands on and volunteer at the FBSJ or at outreach events to tell others about the FBSJ and spread our mission.

Some individuals and/or companies are both financial and food donors and also volunteer with the FBSJ. Obviously, it is up to you how much you are able to contribute but we want you to know that those we serve really do appreciate your support. http://www.foodbanksj.org/
